and now...
A Turkey Story
One day, as I was walking around looking for seeds, I heard a loud BANG.   As I stared up at my feet I realized I was flat on my back on the ground . Suddenly, an alien, with a bright orange shirt on, grabbed me by my feet and dangled me upside down for what seemed like forever.  Then it set me down on the ground and pulled out a knife…
I don't really know what happened after that because I think I passed out when I saw the knife.  When I awoke I was in a strange place that I had never been in before. It smelled strange.  I figured it was the alien’s spaceship.  I sat in a pool of water that had vegetables in it and some watery broth.  It felt like my insides had been replaced with Jello.  I guess that was why it had pulled out the knife.  The alien had stolen my insides!!!  Oh no, how would I get them back.
Just then another alien came strolling in, wearing a dress and an apron. It didn't take me very far but placed me in a square heated box with lights.  I stayed in there for what seemed like ages.  Soon, through the little window in the door, I saw the aliens prepare to take me out.
As they reached for the door handle I thought of how I could escape.  Maybe I would be able to rush the door as they opened it and escape.  Then I realized that none of my muscles were working.  My legs were tied together.  I couldn’t move.  What had they done to me?  Slowly they took me out of the heated box and placed me on a long flat raised plank.  I was surrounded by flat cylinder things with silver shaped twigs placed next to them.  Then I saw dozens of the aliens making their way all around me.  And then the big alien, though it no longer wore the bright orange vest, made some noises and pulled me closer to it.  It had a knife again, but this time it was much, much bigger… Oh no, I thought.

Wait! Here’s a better quote by Lincoln!

Here’s hoping you create a memorable holiday with your family. When you spend time with your elder family members, get their stories. You’d be surprised at how important those can be for your own sense of who you are and where you come from. You might find out something amazing.
Here are this year’s 1st graders about to wrap and take home their ceramic turkeys. Thanks for your assistance, Emma, Maddie and...doe?!

Giving thanks to the pinwheel makers.

Prior to the conflict in Syria, school attendance for children was at almost 100%. Today it is half that. When families are forced to flee their homes it is a disruption in education that can profoundly affect the lives of the children involved for years to come. Students Rebuild “Healing Classrooms” provide structure, safety, remedial help, jobs training and emotional stability to children who are dealing with displacement, loss and poverty due to political unrest.

“Team PIRATES” (That’s YOU) is among nearly 400 teams helping Syrian children through the Healing Classrooms Challenge! Each pinwheel made and mailed in raises $2 for the International Rescue Committee's Healing Classrooms program. Let’s celebrate with the following happy dance.
