The Passing of a Pirate:
HAVRE – Gail Gingerich passed away Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, 2016, at the Northern Montana Care Center in Havre.
He was born May 29, 1928, in Black Duck, Minnesota, to Carl and Nellie Gingerich. The family moved to the Bitterroot Valley when he was a small boy. He was raised in the Victor area and graduated from Victor High School in 1946 where he participated in basketball, football and track. After high school he enlisted in the Navy. He served in the SeaBees in the South Pacific after World War II. He married Joan Robbins of Victor on Sept. 24, 1949.
The young couple lived and worked in many different places and had many different jobs. He worked as an underground miner in Cobalt, ldaho, and Butte. He also was a mechanic in Missoula and Hamilton. He then worked in the woods while Joan ran the small grocery store they had purchased in Victor.
Gail then took to driving truck, eventually owning his own milk hauling business. His last job was as a school bus driver in Victor.
After Joan’s death on July 24, 2003, he spent a few years by himself. He then married Janet Brown, they divorced a few years later.
On Sept. 1, 2013, he married Jacquian Higgins whom he had known in high school.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Victor, the Victor Volunteer Fire Department and a proud member of the Victor Booster Club.
Gail is survived by his wife Jackie of Great Falls; son Gary (Mary Ann) of Victor; daughter Cindy (Steve) Snell of Havre; grandchildren, Sarah, Rowdy, Elizabeth, Serina, and George, and six great-grandchildren, Elijah, Kai, Kaden, Maurizio, Nicholas and Spencer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three brothers, and one sister.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, Jan. 20, at 11 a.m. at the Victor Community Church, Pastor John Capen officiating.
A reception following the service will be held at the church.
The family suggests memorials be sent to the Victor Athletic fund at the Victor High School.
