From Mrs. Martin:

Community Cooking Connections Program
The Community Cooking Connections program is now accepting enrollment for the Spring session.   The program facilitates youth leadership skills by giving them opportunities to serve the public/meet a real public need through their programming decisions.   Since its creation, in 2007, five youth have won State and National awards for their participation in the program.  Additionally, the program is designed to bring back food preparation as a "fun" task not just one of opening cans or bags to be tossed into a microwave or pot. All meals are prepared from scratch, by hand, and while mistakes occur the freedom to "oops" leads to long lasting personal success that strengthens the leaders of tomorrow.
Registration process:  Attend orientation on Jan 10th 4-6pm.  Shadow a senior chef for one day.  Then, if interested, you may register.  We at CCC believe that the program is best observed first hand because the commitment is high, space is limited and we want those most interested and committed to be able to participate.  The below youtube video provides a snap shot into the program in 2010.  The program has grown and changed, since then, evident but it does provide some information for those interested.

Commitment:
CCC is a team process and each registered member is expected to be at each event.  While it contains components similar to a class (homework, field trips, special events and guest speakers), the commitment level is not to individual goals alone but to the team as a whole.  Like commitment to football or soccer, absences impact the team.  Enrollment is ongoing but once you become a member of the team you are expected to participate fully each week.

School Credit:  Several accredited schools (online and local) accept this for internship, culinary arts, nutrition/health credit.  Program is scoped to Common Core Standards and meets Community Service requirements.
Day:                         Friday’s Jan through May
Location:                 Corvallis
Time:                      2:30-7:30 including chefs eating of course
