If you are trick or treating, remember to be safe!

Carry a flashlight, wear reflective clothing, and have an adult check your treats!  All wrapped candy you don't like, you can give to Mr. Pearson tomorrow.

On this day in 1991, the so-called "perfect storm" hits the North Atlantic producing remarkably large waves along the New England and Canadian coasts. Over the next several days, the storm spread its fury over the ocean off the coast of Canada. The fishing boat Andrea Gail and its six-member crew were lost in the storm.

Meanwhile, 21 years later Hurricane Sandy is pummeling New York and the Eastern Seaboard. 7.5 million people awoke this morning without power.  This video of a street (not a river) in New York City depicts the intensity of what is going on:

1)  Respect the game
2)  Be a good team mate.
3)  Compete.

Congratulations to our Lady Pirates Volleyball team and our Pirate Football Team.  Both of them finished their seasons.  Our Ladies bowed out in the district tournament with a loss to Lincoln (in a nice, cozy warm gym) while our Football team lost a tough game 36-22 on the frozen tundra of Ch-Ch-Chinook.

More players from the NHL are born in the first months of the year because December 31 is the cut-off date for Junior Hockey in Canada.  A five year old born on January 1 plays in the same league as a four year old born on December 31.  They have a year (almost!) more growth.  They get more playing time (because they are bigger, stronger, and more developed) and consequently the time and attention pays off by having more of them in the NHL.  Are kids born in the early months more talented?  No.

Why does this matter?

Because perhaps talent is not as important as opportunity and hard-work.

Read the Book OUTLIERS.  It's in the library.
