Today we will hear from our friends who were inspired to step out of their regular routine and meet new people in an outdoor setting. High School Guide, Amanda, and middle school students, Emma, Wyatt, Sierrah and Ashley participated in the Bitterroot Culture Camp last spring and fall. (Josie Lewis has also been a past participant). The purpose of the camp is to foster new friendships and cultural understanding between students from Western Montana and students from the Flathead.

Students did a service learning project where they improved a hiking trail and trail signs. They learned about environmental stewardship, Native culture and homesteading skills. Here are a few fun pictures from their overnight camp at Sam Billings Memorial Campground south of Darby. A big “Thank You” to Janeen Curtis and all the great staff from different environmental organizations as well as tribal elders and educators from the Flathead.

Check with Mrs. Ogden or Mr. Hansen this spring if you are a middle schooler interested in being a Bitterroot Culture Camp ambassador from our school. (We are mostly sure the funding is there for another round)!

Now for something completely different...
